My name is David and I’m an addict. This book is about my lifelong journey, my battle with addiction, my attempts to get clean, and the insanity involved with the lifestyle of being an addict. I am recalling my story to the best of my ability and names will be changed to protect both the innocent and the guilty. I have been battling addiction for 41 years and I feel that I have a pretty accurate recollection of how the events of my life were, however, there may be friends or siblings that could slightly disagree with some of the facts, but this is my life as best as I can recall it.
For many years I justified my addiction telling myself that I wasn’t hurting anybody but myself, and quite frankly had come to believe this as the truth. Today as I work my program of recovery and make the necessary amends for my attitudes and behaviors throughout the years, is where I truly find out how my disease impacted others. My hopes for this book are to show the absolute insanity of the disease of addiction, the impact my disease had on the people around me, and most importantly that there is a solution!
